Choice Time

I am loving this new classroom with a door to the playground! Most of our mornings have been indoor or outdoor choices all morning!

One choice this week was plunger and bath brush painting - loosely inspired by all the books we've been reading about elephant trunks.

Capes are still all the rage.  Did you see our chart about all the good and helpful things super heroes do?

But the scarves have other uses as well, check out this picnic!

After nap, Magnatiles are still a constant and we continue to become more complicated builders.

The interactive chart, A Hunting We Will Go, is a big hit!  The children are learning about reading left to right and about rhyming words!

Our new writing table is getting lots of use!

Teddy Bear Picnic

The Teddy Bear Picnic had to be held indoors, but we still had a nice time!

Butterfly Release

The day we let our butterflies go was beautiful - we spent most of the morning outside and celebrated a birthday too!

Melissa's Lead Day

A parachute activity before leaving the gym...

Bells and triangles at group time...

Grocery store play...

Painting on grocery bags...

New books...

Magnatiles

Washing babies...

And then the boys came up with their own idea - build a tower with hollow blocks and fill it all the way up!

And a story with a puppet to hug as we head outside!

(Just FYI if you see some new faces - we combine with Gold Room on Fridays!)

Small Groups

Small Group time has been going really well.  We split up into groups of 6 and read a story and then do an activity.  Typically we rotate so that each group does each activity throughout the week.  So if Blue group paints on Monday, it will be Yellow's turn on Tuesday and Red's on Wednesday.
Here is Yellow Group doing Under the Table art...

while Red Group used pop beads - and ended up getting an introduction to measuring with non standard units!

Meanwhile Blue Group painted...

Choice Time

Our reading/Writing Center get busy.  In case you are wondering, it's not that cold in the book area...she looks like she's freezing because they are reading the F the Flamingo Freezes page from the Amazing Action Alphabet.  The kids love acting out the letter!

The hollow blocks are great for dramatic play!

Sometimes you just need a phone...

This is why I put books in the block area!

 Fruit Kabobs!

(and patterning!)
