Small Groups
We've had small group time most days since the beginning of the year. Usually we (6 kids, 1 teacher) read a book together and some days we end the time with a short activity. I really think this time is important, and doing it early in the day at 9:30 has really been working out. This week, we split into groups, read a story together and then did one of 4 things...a Bingo game, journals focusing on our name, sorting by color, and an ice experment. Every child got a chance to explore an ice cube tray. I froze toys in the trays and they had to figure out how to get them out, salt, water, and banging were just some of the methods!

Following a Recipe
Last week, we followed a picture recipe and sliced a banana and topped it with raisins. This week, we sliced cheese and put it on crackers. These do not sound like complicated recipes, but you are not three (or four)! It was a really challenge trying to figure out how to get one piece of cheese into just 6 slices. Then we counted 6 crackers out and practiced one to one correspondence, putting one slice on each cracker. (I guess we also learned about remainders, since some children really enjoyed slicing the cheese into smaller and smaller pieces yet only had 6 crackers on which to place the cheese!)
Day two, there were many more results like this!
Magnatiles
We are coming such a long way with our building with Magnatiles!
What problem solving...what math skills...what cooperation! It's gotten so they will not allow me to not put them out as a choice after lunch and I even had to add another set to our collection!
